I hope this is a joke. If not, GFY.

Also, I’m not saying you shouldn’t be critical. I’m saying the language you are using to criticize in that context isn’t going to be understood and isn’t getting your message across.

Never said anything about “anti-social” or even inferred it. Sorry you took that from what I was saying.

Not a very encouraging sign.

I think you buried the lede. That’s his blood type on his sleeve.

Hear me out: there are others directing and manipulating him. He’s not a monolith.

I don’t follow you and the joke was presented to me. Unless you restrict your views, others will see them, particularly with a larger platform like yours.

I actually believe that. I’m just pissed because I’ve wanted just one faithful adaptation, just one, and thought he could do it. One of the changes he made is so fundamental it ruined it for me. I hated Pan’s Labyrinth though, so I guess there’s a grain of salt there.

The entire history of chips in America is filled with stories of either accidental discovery of the repurposing of waste byproducts. Potato and corn chips are the Marmite and Vegemite of America.

The problem with the film is it is in no way a faithful adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel. Like, at all. Yes there are similar story, plot, and character points but I think it is so off from the book that I wonder if del Toro understood the book at all.

When you make a joke about a willfully ignorant group playing on that ignorance but not making 1000% sure THEY know they are being made fun of, THEY will find a way to use that joke against you. You’re just giving them ammo. For free.

It’s a very good interpretation based on a very close read of the text of the book. The creature above all is existentially LONELY, bereft of company because he is literally alone. This is the singular drive of the creature’s character arc in the book. This drives the longing and rage and revenge.

The ugliness is not in feature but in form. It is almost a supernatural effect that people revile the sight of him in the book. Yes, Victor built the creature to have beautiful features, but it is the “abomination” of what the creature *is* on sight that causes the absolute revultion.
