It's just beautiful and the temperature will be 1 degree F tonight.

Maine's state fossil is a Middle Devonian vascular plant, Pertica Quadrifaria. I love that.

The stitch pattern looks a bit familiar. Is it from one of Barbara Walker's Treasuries?

How old?
I (at 77) and my contemporaries know it's essential, particularly if one lives in a rural part of a country ruled by fascists.

I'm reading your post in one of those homes.

Me, too, for a decade or more as there are now no little kids in the extended family, and we adults just don't need or want STUFF

Yes! This batch includes ground duck from 2 that we "sent to freezer camp" this fall. Dried beans, tomato sauce, onions and herbs from our garden. In recognition of my "delicate "sensibilities" just 2 Thai peppers, also from the garden. He'll add sriracha as needed to his servings.

It's winter in Maine. Hangin' the laundry by the woodstove.

On, but think of the corporations. 😢
I have a 7-yr old cheap android phone. When it dies I'll go back to a flip phone if the bastards still make 'em.

Our No Rules Thanksgiving: leftover fish chowder, leftover spanakopita. Husband loves to cook--and is very good--so a couple times a week we eat the various leftovers. Right now, he's thawing the last container of chili from the freezer for lunch. Then he's going to make...more chili...

That recipe looks just like the one I used. Don't remember where I found it--but it's excellent.

I love librarians! Several are relatives. Others are booksellers as I was in a past life.

It's still possible to save $ at the grocery store & save cooking time. We (2 old people) have a bigger garden than we need (donate extras to the food pantry) & still have the physical ability but can't grow everything by a long shot. (See the Tragedy of the Commons & the Industrial Revolution).

That was me for good many years! I learned lots of good ways to save on groceries and also cooking time. That's one of the reasons I loved working for Extension--https://extension.org/find-cooperative-extension-in-your-state/can. Free, science-based, info to save time & $ & still eat well.

Peppers LOVE sun! extension.org/find-coopera... for suggestions, including good varieties for your area. Science-based. Free. And a link to your university's soil lab: step 1 to starting a garden, then every 3 years. Save $ by avoiding unnecessary stuff.

Our garden isn't the best for them, but some friends in the wider area have good luck. We do very well with tomatoes, beans, and lots of other crops. USDA Zone 5.
