I am reminded of the Nixon advisor who warned we had a "dangerously over-educated" proletariat, and the 1980s GOP directly began its campaign against higher Ed for the pesky peasants. The ownership class desperately wants to restore its monopoly on education like "the good ol days" of aristocracy.

And also because these media institutions don't want the labour of building an audience on a new platform AND bc the media empires share investors like Vanguard, Sequoia, Blackrock et al w/X. We've clearly seen how financial incentives affect editorial priority.

My friends and I are making an effort to ensure we're up to date for anything we might be missing, including for international travel. Just can't know what fresh hellscape of preventable disease will roar back after the anti-science crew gets to work.

I send genuine physical mail to em. I only ever got replies from Sherrod Brown, and now there will be a wage theft corporate grifter in his place. Can't wait to see what dastardly appointment replaces Vance ahead of the special election. Prob someone from the First Energy scam. 🙄

I wrote a physical letter to Rep Mike Carey R-OH about this. He conveniently has a character limit on contact form messages that's shorter than this reply. Ofc he voted in favor last time.

It's hard to build a professional brand or even enjoy non hate-farm content on a platform overrun with bots and trolls. BlueSky will have to address the looming profit vs UX conflict. Right now algos washed anew is lovely, but a free-to-user model will incentivise the same decay eventually.

With control of all branches of govt, the GOP faces no meaningful barrier to their policy wishlist, so it's telling that the focus is on control of the military and removing leaders who may disobey unethical or unconstitutional orders.

Absolutely! The "free to users" model completely misaligns profit and UX as we've seen from every other social media--the only users that end up mattering are advertisers.

The proliferation of "urban warfare" training centers and the rise in authoritarianism are intimately connected. The police serve as the private military of the ruling class, and US police would be the 5th largest global military if they were a real military.
