The Chinese American Museum highlights the origins of Chinese American Communities in LA. Chinese immigrants faced various challenges. Social work has helped to advocate for policy reform surrounding gentrification, assist in community building, and offer services. #csudhMSW501
The building of the Chinese American Museum is one of the original buildings of Old Chinatown. This was taken in front of a traditional Chinese herb medicine store exhibit. Chinese medicine stresses the importance of herbal medicine and acupuncture to help balance the nervous system. Chinese Americans celebrate the Chinese New Year by celebrating with family, eating traditional foods, partaking in traditional dances, and creating festive decorations with red and gold colors. This was taken outside of the museum, near the plaza. Old Chinatown was originally displaced due to the construction of the Union Station. New Chinatown had to be built around the station and the amount of new people coming to LA.
