Agreed, that is what I meant. This is the right move by Jeffries at the right time because there is an opening to drum up the support needed we've never had before. AND they need time to organize and solidify that commitment before a vote.

If there was ever a time they could wrangle some Republican defectors, wouldn't this be it? You have to try something when you have the opportunity.

Specifically, Chuck Schumer - all fingers need to be pointing at him. Thank you for speaking out!
January 24, 2026 at 7:21 PM
Yes, and it's a dereliction of duties to continually let this happen and why I would prefer to hold my representative to account for not doing her job rather than accept it as reality.

It is not to count votes, it is to corral votes. You think people just act 100% independently from their party and don't take any direction? Sure, she's not literally holding a gun to people's head to force them, but a whip uses leverage to coax a unified vote from the caucus.

That is literally her job...
January 22, 2026 at 10:25 PM
But she, the minority whip, is not whipping the votes. Her no vote is only symbolic.

Agreed, it seems "Democrat leadership soft launches their cover story for their plans to expand funding for ICE" should be the headline, but what do I know?
January 21, 2026 at 7:59 PM
NBC is reporting they are not planning on whipping this vote 👎👎👎👎

Is this a job for @bencollins.bsky.social ?

It hasn't been up for a vote yet, but I believe this is it. docs.house.gov/billsthiswee...

Invoking the 25th amendment is not impeachment?

Right?? This vote had me searching for primary challengers and there is one (actually 2)! I just started a monthly donation and volunteered.
I’m running for Congress to put power back in your hands. Working families deserve to thrive, not be squeezed out of the communities they love. I will fight for the working class, not the donor class. Watch why this moment is ours ✌🏽

It's clear what lane you're in.
The House voted 341 to 79 to fund Trump's war-mongering foreign policy agenda.

Only 57 Democrats voted NO.

This scene lives rent free in my head as well, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

There is a silliness to it, but with a solid dose of earnestness. A "hi friend" followed by a hug is a wonderful greeting, and "hey friend, can you pass me a beer" also works. "Fam" is basically the same. There's a word for you out there, I believe!
December 9, 2025 at 2:43 AM
Ahhh yes a statement ending in ", friend" is very different. This is more like a greeting entering a room or starting a group chat - "Hey friends, long time no see!"
December 9, 2025 at 2:28 AM
It never occurred to me, but I use "friends" this way.
