“…the U.S. is punishing Brazilians for doing something Americans should have done, but failed to: hold a former president accountable for attempting to overturn an election”

So proud of my legal and democratic system! 🇧🇷L

A paper in Nature suggests a quarter of heatwave events from 2000-23 would have been near impossible without anthropogenic climate change. The paper also indicates that major carbon emitters are responsible for around 50% of the increase in intensity of these events. ⚒️ 🧪
Systematic attribution of heatwaves to the emissions of carbon majors - Nature
Climate change made 213 historical heatwaves reported over 2000–2023 more likely and more intense, to which each of the 180 carbon majors (fossil fuel and cement producers) substantially contributed.

This #OceanIdiom refers to being out of place in unfamiliar surroundings. While preserved fish specimens in museums, which are literally out of water, might seem out of place, they actually play an important role in research. @beatymuseum.bsky.social @seaaroundus.org oceans.ubc.ca/10-years-of-...

In Spain and Mexico, demand for octopus is up, but octopus populations are down.

In both countries, octopus fishers are sticking to traditional fishing techniques while joining eco-certification schemes with tighter regulations, hoping to protect not just the cephalopods, but their own livelihoods.
