We studied how loneliness relates to self-harm in adolescents in real time, and how parent–child attachment shapes this link, thereby offering key insights into when and why adolescents self-harm and what we can do to help.

This is the 1st study that provides insights into the role of adverse childhood experiences (such as sexual abuse and bullying) in real-time, daily-life self-harm thoughts and behaviours in a large group of Flemish adolescents.
