Research engineer : Genetic of resilience ans social networks in hens
You will join the GENUTS team (Genetics, Nutrition, Systems), in the BOA Joint Research Unit (Avian Biology & Poultry Research) located in Nouzilly (25 km from Tours), under the supervision of Dr J. Collet. You will also collaborate with Dr N. Bédère in the unit PEGASE (Physiology, Environemnt and genetics for Livestock and rearing systems) based in Saint-Gilles (Britany).The BOA unit conducts research on farmed birds, from the molecular level to the animal in its environment. The unit aims to generate knowledge in physiology, nutrition and genetics, and to contribute to the agroecological transition of farming systems (environmental sustainability, animal welfare, and product quality). The GENUTS team (20 collaborators) focuses on both nutrition and genetics to improve poultry farming systems.Your work will be part of the European EUPAHW project HenCare (Hen Emotional Needs – Comprehensive assessment and Resilience Enhancement) coordinated by the University of Newcastle, in in collaboration with KU Leuven, the University of Bern, and Hendrix genetics. The project aims to identify predictors and behavioural indicators of long-term emotional states in laying hens, as well as their genetic bases.More specifically, your missions will include:Conduct quantitative genetic analyses of behavioural, physiological, and neurobiological data (heritability, genetic correlations, GWAS)Set up and interpret social networks data from hen behaviour, and test whether social network position predicts resilience.

Vous serez accueilli(e) au sein de l’équipe GENUTS (Génétique, Nutrition, Systèmes) au sein de l’UMR BOA (Biologie des Oiseaux et Aviculture) située à Nouzilly (25 km de Tours, transports quotidien depuis Tours), sous la supervision Julie Collet et Elodie Guettier. L’unité BOA mène des recherches sur les oiseaux d’élevage, du niveau moléculaire à l’animal dans son environnement. Elle a pour objectif de produire des connaissances en physiologie, nutrition et génétique, et de contribuer à la transition agroécologique des systèmes d’élevage (respect de l’environnement, bien-être animal et qualité des produits).Vos travaux s’inscriront dans le cadre du projet PEPR PRezode Taledz « Typologie des Élevages aux Antilles et Détection Précoce des Zoonoses », coordonné par l’Université des Antilles, en collaboration avec l’UMR ASSET (Guadeloupe).Nous proposons un stage de master (ou équivalent) pour un-e étudiant-e motivé-e pour analyser les comportements et les budgets temps de poulets de chair en conditions de bien-être ou de challenge thermique. Le but de ce projet sera de prédire les états de mal-être ou de dégradation de la santé en utilisant l’analyse des comportements. L’étudiant-e devra suivre l’expérimentation animale et le bien-être des individus in situ, annoter les vidéos de l’élevage, et gérer les données issues de dispositifs accéléromètres et vidéos. Iel établira l’éthogramme des caractères intéressants pour cette question scientifique, et annoter ces comportements de façon individuelle via le support des vidéos. L’étudiant-e pourra également participer au développement des dispositifs accéléromètres pour décrire les comportements des volailles sur un plus long terme selon leur souhait.
