Also I wanted to mention Abney Park which is within London. It’s an old cemetery turned into a nature reserve. The atmosphere is eerie! You can go there with the overground to Stoke Newington. Several bus options as well.

Sad you missed the deer :( Maybe you can try Bushy Park to see some deer. Train to Teddington, it’s next to Hampton court. I saw loads when I went there a few years ago.

SW-overground or train to Richmond: Richmond Park with deer/Thames riverside/old town/Ham House; NW-train to Denham: Clone Valley regional park + cute Denham village; N-train to Hatfield: cute old town + gorgeous Hatfield house and park (paid entry); NE- train to Cheshunt: Lee valley park (wetlands)
