The Cranbourne Royal Botanical Gardens are *amazing*. They are not far from Melbourne. They have been so carefully designed! You never know when you will come across an entirely different view.

The Jawas are really far from home!

I'm at the National Gallery of Victoria today. I'm continually struck by the power of intent, personality, and meaning-making in every work of art.

Even more Sydney Opera House internal geometry!
The area outside the concert hall in the Sydney Opera House is carpeted in royal purple! Here you see the steps, purple carpet on light gray concrete with brass rails, ascending left to right. It meets the concrete diagonal of the underside of the next flight of stairs. In the upper left of the frame you see the concrete ribs of the next level up.

Today at the Botanic Gardens in Canberra!
A concrete drain under a curb. It has raised diagonal concrete stripes instead of a grille. Sitting on the second stripe facing the dark drain gap is a large water dragon lizard, probably 18+ inches long including its tail. It has a stripey dark gray and light blue-gray scale pattern.

I'm visiting Parliament House in Canberra today. It's very inspiring. Here are photos of the House and Senate chambers. The House is green and the Senate is red, both in eucalyptus tones. Lots more info in alt text!

My cat is art.

There must be something magical about having all your feet in one corner!
A rectangular cardboard box seen from above so it matches the frame of the photo. In the box is a white fluffy cat with all her feet tucked into the lower left box corner. The curve of her back is at the top, and the left side of the box runs along the back of her straightened right leg. Her head is lifted and she is looking away toward the window, out of frame at the box's upper left corner. You can see two of her large orange tabby spots, one at the base of her tail and the other on her back near the upper left corner. She also has tiny orange- and brown-tabby spots on the top of her head, between her ears.

This is one of my favorite pieces of Christmas music: Stewart Goodyear's virtuosic performance of his own arrangement of the Nutcracker Ballet (the complete ballet!) by Tchaikovsky...for solo piano.

The Undertaker building has restaurants in it.
A heritage brick building on a Melbourne Street. It has two windows on the upper floor and two windows on the bottom floor, so you can't see the ones on the bottom floor because there is a large green SUV parked in front of them. These windows are arched with a point as though they are church windows. In raised block text on the upper floor is the word "undertaker est 1903" because this building used to be undertaker's building when it was first built in 1903. The building next-door to it doesn't match, but invisible on the other side of that building is a church that matches.

Find your way into the cavern city of Pelismara, where a young man is about to discover his idealistic desire to care for his people and save his mother will demand he learn just how divided his society is. And there is, of course, the issue of his brother...

Who let this suggestion get past the first meeting where it should have been laughed at and binned?
New entry at Woolworths has 3 parallel barriers creating two side-by-side passageways. The passages each have toothlike hinged white batons that hit a person’s legs as they walk through, and block backward movement.

Rainbow over Camberwell Junction!

Pelli says, “There is a tree, and I’m going to sit under it.”
We have set up our very nice artificial Christmas tree beside the deck door, which is currently open, and the cat is resting on the tree skirt underneath it. The tree skirt is cream-colored with small gold stars, and the cat is fluffy and white. You can see the orange- and brown-tabby spot on her back, and on her tail. She is looking up at the camera.
