Can any other writers of horror or speculative fiction please tell me when editing drafts stops filling you with despair and starts filling you with excitement?

I’m going to see 28 Days Later at the cinema tonight. This is the film that started my love affair with horror but I was too young to see it on release.

This feels almost akin to a spiritual experience, or as close as I’ll ever get at least.

I’m about two thirds of way through editing my first draft. My pendulum is swinging wildly from thinking it’s utter nonsense to imagining that I have my helmet and pickaxe and I’m about to find gold in them there hills.

I wonder which side it will swing to today.

My partner has a book sale at her work every so often and she always comes home with an enormous stack of books that she got for like £5. It’s fantastic.

In other news, I’m soon to complete my transition into a dragon/orang-utan that lives on a hoard of books.

I’m really late to the Terry Pratchett party, embarrassingly so. But so far he has managed to make me laugh (almost) audibly on a train and in my work canteen which, believe me, is quite a thing.

How I missed this for so long, I couldn’t say. What a fool I’ve been.

The sheer amount of books being published by new or debut authors is absolutely incredible. I hope this trend never ends.

My feed has been getting flooded with posts about library cards lately. Is BlueSky in the pocket of Big Library?

So fantasy, horror, and romance is topping the book-selling charts. I wonder if that’s got anything to do with the entire planet going to shit lately?

I’m just over 30,000 words into a novel that I’m writing and I’ve finally hit the “what the fuck am I doing” stage. That is to say; it’s going well, thanks for asking.

The real question on this platform is how I can pad out my follower count now I can’t rely on hate-bots.

I haven’t had twitter, sorry, X in so long that I forgot how bad I am at tweeting. Xing. Having interesting but character limited thoughts.
