People swallowed the 'skivers and strivers' rhetoric thinking that didn't apply to them and kept voting for these vicious politicians. The lack of compassion and caring is heartbreaking.

Back when Cameron and Osborne began to systematically dismantle the UK's welfare safety net along with everything else good in the country, while dog-whistling about skivers and strivers, I did wonder why they didn't just reopen the workhouses while they were at it. Seems we're not far from that.
