Today the Tas Govt officially binned the Planning Commission’s damning report into the proposed Mac Pt AFL stadium. But if the knuckleheads actually knew anything about ‘future prosperity’, they’d be focussed instead on essential infrastructure and services #auspol #politas

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

PS I could not have attended that arts course if it wasn’t subsidised & neither could my classmates who ranged from 18 to 70yo, none of whom had thousands for fees. Meeting them was priceless. The variety & depth of life experience in that classroom was incredibly enriching. TAFE builds community.

I did one semester of interior design at TAFE when I was 18 freshly out of high school - and despite dropping out sans qualification I’ve used those skills every year of the 25 years since. Most recently YESTERDAY. And I didn’t even enjoy learning them!
juniperlilacs.bsky.social
TAFE focusses on practical & necessary skills - for arts this means navigating business too. Intellectual property, public liability, etc. The employment effects may be less obvious than a trade apprenticeship, but they are still present. ALL entry level skill building is important to the state.
juniperlilacs.bsky.social
Even the classmates who didn’t aim for immediate employment in the arts used the skills in other jobs. There’s no such thing as wasted education. As a middle-aged millennial I can tell you every seemingly silly arts skill I’ve even partially learned in my life has come into usefulness at some point.

I did Cert 3 arts at the NW TAFE pre covid, had freelance gigs as a result, watched my classmates get jobs or start small businesses - one of which directly contributed to the Spirit of Tasmania children’s entertainment program, which is a major public face of state tourism. The arts create jobs.

“The AEU warned that removing subsidies for 12 courses, including those in the creative arts, will cause a devastating fee hike of up to 5400%, effectively ‘killing courses’ and locking out young Tasmanians.”

Disgraceful decision, must be reconsidered.

The decision by the Minister for Skills and Jobs, Felix Ellis, to redirect TasTAFE course subsidies was defended as an essential move for “long-term viability” and to better meet the state’s growing d...

I’m actually still going to bed and naturally waking up at a reasonable time, it’s just that Big Daylight has moved the clock an hour to make me look bad. I’m good and normal you see, but The Summer Industrial Complex is against me personally, and all of you who participate in it are wrong.

We're now finding out that as many as 70,000 people had their government IDs provided to prove their ages leaked by Discord. Like I wrote last week, this is an inherent risk (and made greater by a rushed process) of getting platforms to do age checks
Discord says 70,000 users may have had their government IDs leaked in breach
The ID pics had been submitted as part of age-related appeals.

Shout-out to the Reddit thread where somebody said the best stain remover for food stains is actually dishwashing liquid. I just saved a pale pink wool and cotton jumper I got from the op shop, not realising it had several washed in stains on the front. Better results than actual stain remover!

The AFP has set up new National Security Investigations (NSI) teams to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia's social cohesion.
The NSI teams will work closely with state and territory police, law enforcement and national security partners to provide a coordinated, consistent and intelligence-led response to security threats, and also work on a global level through operations, capabilities and relationships with the international law enforcement intelligence community.
There are current and emerging groups dispersed across Australia and in some cases, overseas, who are eroding our country's social fabric by advocating hatred, fear, and humiliation. While many of these crimes may not meet the threshold of terrorism, the AFP has identified concerning behaviours which could escalate to politically-motivated violence or hate crimes, which seriously put the Australian community at risk.
There is no place for hate or violence in our communities and the AFP will defend and protect Australia and Australia's future from these threats.
Anyone with information about possible threats to the community or suspicious activity should make a report to the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400. In an emergency or life-threatening situation, contact Triple

I have never in my 20+ years online seen anybody type ‘whoa’ until today. Woah is me!
merriam-webster.com
Let’s talk about ‘whoa.’

First of all, ‘woah’ is not yet considered an established spelling variant of ‘whoa.’

While ‘woah’ has grown in prevalence since the late 20th century, ‘whoa’ is still about 5 times as common as ‘woah.’

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."
