Anyway, this really took the shine off an event I had thought was pretty inclusive. The audience just laughed along, hopefully some politely masking their discomfort.

Names aren’t difficult.’ Our names are our names. She’s probably quite keen on her own. Learning how to say someone’s name correctly is a pretty basic level of respect.

She asked the audience to clap, to disguise her inability to pronounce the ‘difficult’ names. The names that she probably thought were ‘ethnic’ - although she also scrambled a few ‘Anglo’ names.

I was at an awards show today where the host thought it was hilarious that she couldn’t pronounce the nominees’ surnames, and bragged that she’d done no preparation.
