Mario music can vary between Big-Band jazz and other styles. I remember people were comparing Mario 3D World - Bowser's Fury's Final Boss theme to What I'm Made Of from Sonic Heroes and other rock themes from the Hedgehog series, haha.

"Sonic The Hedgehog CD" has fantastic soundtracks in my opinion. Props to Hataya-san, Ogata-san and Spencer Nilsen.
