The duty has been adopted in both Scotland and Wales however is not yet commenced in England. Once this is done it will be a new tool for addressing socio-economic inequality at a local level. 4/5

Section 1 of the Equality Act 2010, the socio-economic duty, is intended to reduce socio-economic disadvantage. If enacted, it requires local and public authorities to consider the ways in which their decisions increase or decrease socio-economic inequalities. 3/5
