The policy was pushed through by a group called Mass Resistance, a campaign that lasted for more than three years and is listed as an anti-LGBTQ hate group. I believe we must come together to fight back and ensure that everyone is welcomed in the city of Downey. #csudhMSW501

One social movement I want to highlight is the recent ban on flying the Pride flag on city property in Downey. This decision is especially striking since Downey has its first openly gay mayor, Mario Trujillo. #csudhMSW501

Lastly, I went to the Columbia Memorial Space Museum, where I learned that Downey produced 15% of all U.S. military aircraft during World War II. #csudhMSW501

I also visited a local bar called Bastards and had some amazing Carne Asada Fries (highly recommend). Bastards is a local bar that was named after a unit of the U.S. Marine Corps, and weekly they hold events for their veterans to hang out and find valuable resources. #csudhMSW501

I stopped by the Assistance League of Downey’s thrift store and was impressed by the affordable prices offered to the community. The Assistance League has been around for over 70 years and has helped the city of Downey in many ways. #csudhMSW501
