I think people believe Pyrex is more recent than it is, associating it with postwar culture. They are partly correct, except it is the First World War, not WW2. Libertyville Independent, December 16, 1920 #foodhistory #technology

I went to Eastern Slovakia recently: in the small village of Betliar that my grandmother left after Christmas of 1922, in the cemetery, stands a WWI monument that probably went up after she left. It bears the name of her brother, Ján Holečko. He died in an Italian POW camp in 1918.

That time in 1914 when Joe Impastato got hauled in to court for selling White patrons alcohol on a Black license, the segregation part of the Gay-Shattuck liquor law of 1908. If the address of 500 Chartres rings a bell, this is the Napoleon House.

I'd like to read more into the election results, and there are some positives, but it is substantially mitigated by the fact that the "NO" side just had a good ground game for a change. A commensurate Republican turnout might have passed one or more, but not on the proportion of last November.

I've never grown ranunculus bulbs before but they are super satisfying. Poppies always seem to fail here in Louisiana but these are making up for it.
