One of the amusing things about visiting #Japan is how quickly you can go from “why does the toilet open up every time I walk past the door” to “why do I have to manually flush this toilet like a peasant”

Kyoto was lovely but almost unbearably crowded in parts, to the point of being dangerous. Got into a cursing shoving bout with a dude at Kiyomizudera who told me to go back to my own country, which would certainly amuse the people who have told me that back in the US. #Japan

They are a nice experience, especially if you get the green car tickets, but the speed at which you have to operate on them is unnerving.

The fun part about being in a taxi in a foreign country and not having any idea of whether you’re getting ripped off or not is remembering you could be at home and not know if a cab was ripping you off. #Japan

The Shinkansen is speedy and efficient, but these transfers where you literally have one minute to get off the train with your luggage before it takes off again are rapidly aging me. #Japan

Made it to Hakone where we took in more Fall foliage before visiting the impressive Hakone Open Air Museum and settling into our ryokan for a lovely kaiseki dinner. #Japan

I feel like I’m just going to try spending every holiday here. Next should be New Year’s. Weather’s been pretty nice—a little nippy but clear and dry.
