I think people keep hearing these tech bros talk about just stealing artists' work and none of the practical applications, so I get it. People think AI is just "make myself in Studio Ghibli style" or "Watch Will Smith eat pasta" - they're not being presented real, useful use cases.

We need to understand the tools to dismantle the power, for sure. I'm very worried about BIPOC, particularly Black folks, being left behind in this.

I teach accessible tech to nonprofits to support their work, including some AI tools. Very frequently I'm met with skepticism and fear to end with "Wow, it doesn't seem so scary. This is useful". I've used it to find, sort, and build health resource databases, criminal justice reform databases, etc.
