For my first image back on team monochrome, I imaged NGC 7023 + Vdb 141, the Iris and Ghost Nebula.

Horsehead -> Orion, finally

Still wish I could have had more time on RGB, but happy to move on to other objects.

Having Nikola Jokic on my fantasy roster feels like cheating 😅
Monster lines night after night.

Vando present? Also have they held open practices in this new facility? Would love to attend one. Had a chance to attend in 2014 in the old building. Was early on in the preseason IIRC where they got a few runs in and were installing portions of their offense

Was able to get some time in under the stars over the last couple of nights. 💆🏾‍♂️🔭
Here's a dirty version of the horsehead nebula region in Orion, featuring Alnitak, Alnilam, the flame & more.

Here's the RAW img prior to background extraction along with a pic of my setup (including the dividers I use to block as much of my neighbors light, which covers my entire imaging area). Challenging, but not impossible.... Hopefully some darker skies are planned for my 2025 🤞🏾🔭

My latest attempt of M45, Pleiades Open Star Cluster: ~18 hours total of RGB, gathered over 9 nights from Los Angeles, CA. 🔭

Had the chance to blend the RGB(currently 9hrs)+HOO data for panel 1. ~15 hours seems about right to fill out the Running Man area. This is an extreme stretch, so maybe around 20 hrs is where I'd like to end up to not have to push the signal as much

Here, you see skytools use the surface brightness in combination with the approximate user sky quality + equipment to help determine the total time, whereas the DSD tool uses the actual quality but is asking you to find the object signal from single sub, which can be tricky for the faint stuff.

HOO on top of h-alpha channel, and what would be all 3 panels stitched together. Just need the rgb to come along :-)

With the broadband signal, I'm looking at ~15hrs per panel. The narrowband is probably done as far as desired snr. Just need the shorter exposures to soften the core. Here's the raw, background extracted panels aligned

While it's clouded out here, decided to take a peek at the Orion Nebula data that I gathered over the last month. This is 1 of a 3 panel mosaic that covers M42 to the Horsehead. ~9 hrs total of 240s/15s/5s exposures to create this HDR image. Long way to go!

Vdb 152 and friends

Hard not to be proud of this one!! Huge fan of this region, but had doubts about the kind of signal that I could gather from these skies. Data didn't look promising at night 8.. Wasn't until night 13 (28hrs) that I felt comfortable with what I had😎

Took about 350 hours (generous, I purged a lot😅) to capture these deep space objects from Los Angeles, CA

This summer I got a chance to image with a Newtonian telescope for the first time.Took a while to dial in bc I couldn’t get an accurate collimation. After addressing the lateral mirror movement in the cell, finally pushed these out: #astrophotography #astronomy #space #blacksky #photography #art 🔭
