Vermont’s Bread and Puppet Theater is on tour with a mission to make ‘the revolution irresistible.’ A group of 15 artists is traveling to 33 U.S. cities to stage this year’s show, ‘Our Domestic Resurrection Revolution in Progress.’ This is one of their acts.

The kids who age out don't have guardians without terminated rights generally.

There's no family to tear apart in that case.

At least not without a shared enemy. May I propose: motorists?

From my perspective an interesting counterdynamic is what when you're a cishet white man you start from a standpoint of being individually virtuous rather than collectively sinful.

This feels like echoes of the recent "gifted kid" discourse on here too

Either she ran a CPS too incompetent to detect child abuse, or one that _could_ detect it but _didn't_ because it would "rock the boat".

We could "never ascribe to malice" and she would still not come out looking good.

100% homeschooling should be generally illegal. I know of a few exceptions (i.e.: child needs 24/7 home care) but they're vanishingly rare.

I think specifically in your case it sorta sounds like political corruption was a factor, too.
justostrich.com
Reforming the second isn't trivial but "stop electing Republicans, assholes" is a good place to start. Reforming the first is much harder but probably not as expensive as we think - people just lack the will to care for kids without legal parents.

CPS also usually favors parents for a couple of reasons, one of which is that The System is often genuinely worse than bad parents and that is not a defense of bad parents. The other is (usually Republican) policies that elevate a proprietary theory of parenting.

I don't think it's a defense to misspending the money, I'm just saying "using it on your child" if it was something you were gonna use anyway accrues a financial benefit to the parents. The same way federal funding for social services benefits state budgets.
justostrich.com
Also "being able to recover from bad parents" isn't enough, you have to be able to intervene in the moment tbh.

Like the difference between free childcare and cash covering childcare is nil. I'm gonna be using childcare, so it's saving me cash I'd otherwise have to spend.

I don't really have a problem with this but I also don't know what world we're in where parents of children who get tax breaks aren't still raising their children at a loss.
justostrich.com
My point is that we already tax childless people in ways that only people with children benefit from all the time - and I'm wondering how far "anti-childlessness-tax" goes.

If the CTC is acceptable, is this just a vibes issue? Or if pressed are we gonna say cash transfers from the childless are bad

I think maybe if you approached the discussion with curiosity instead of patronizing derision you might have a better experience.

They ALL were like "I don't have children, why should I have to pay to educate your crotch goblins?"
justostrich.com
We do not charge childless people an additional tax, we just give people with children a material financial benefit that is unavailable to childless people.

... which is effectively the same thing, financially.

I went to public school, anti-public-school people regularly fielded this argument.
justostrich.com
But I also get public schooling. If I didn't, I'd have to pay that cost. It is as if that money is transferred to me.

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke
