This is great but its not a high bar to improve over steam. Low pressure steam systems are incredibly inefficient. They heat the heck out of places you dont want and cost a lot in maintenance.

Which is why death stars, despite being stupidly expensive, also fit into the doctrine, because if you have a planet entirely in revolt, and don't want to spend destroyer time bombarding the entire surface, you delete the planet.

One more thing, the workhorse of the imperial fleet are the star destroyers, ties are just an accessory for them. You park in orbit above a planet that is getting uppity and start bombarding, bombing, and raiding until the residents get the message.

Lack of shields doesn't matter (to your imperial Superiors) when there are three more maneuvering on whatever Republic era fighter that got you. Once the x wing shows up and proves it inadequate, the empire then evolves the design into the interceptor and other variants. Furthermore, in this essay-

It wasnt intended for space superiority though. Its a tool of imperialism. Its job is to strafe worlds whose defenses were reduced by star destroyers, and escort troop transports for occupation.
