I’m actually looking into this now and, huh… I genuinely don’t know but I assume it probably helped the game run smoother with the nicer lighting and art direction? Then again, TTYD remake uses rigged models and looks on par if not better than those other two games

It’s definitely easier to rig a model with multiple animations rather than animate sprites like Paper Mario 64. The reason they don’t do this with the non-paper sprites is because it would look really weird with their artstyle
