The opening quote from What It Takes to Heal by Prentis Hemphill. Many see futurism is a “distraction” or inappropriate in the face of a system of oppression (someone else’s vision actualize). The quote offers a valuable reminder about transformation.

For this writing prompt, I framed the title of the novel, which is that many Indigenous communities commonly belief the warning that whistling at night can cause evil spirits to appear. The prompt explored: Someonewhistles at night, write about what happens.

A fun writing prompt that we explored in college / later revisited was exploring one of two opportunities:

1) Writing a conversation without utilizing dialogue.

2) Setting a scene only utilizing dialogue.

Both rely on the writer flexing their craft in a different way. substack.com/@jawanzabari...

UPDATE:

The House just passed the SAVE Act with a 220-208 vote that included 4 Democrats voting in support of the bill.

This bill effectively codifies one of Trump's executive orders and will disenfranchise tens of millions of American voters.
Today, we’re voting on what Republicans are calling the “SAVE Act”—but let’s be real, it’s a straight-up voter suppression bill.

They are literally trying to make it harder for millions of Americans to exercise their right to vote.

I’m voting NO—hell no, actually.
