The song birds trade across much of SE Asia is really bad, in some places what were common flocking birds are now rare. Lots of laughingthrushes, bulbuls, shamas, leafbirds, mynas etc affected. But there are big efforts to try and change things…

Amazingly, these (warbler-like) birds make a nest by folding a leaf and sewing the edges together making a cup, using natural fibres or spiderwebs…

That’s where the nostrils come in handy, these birds and other Asian Malkoha species have different shaped nose holes. This can be useful in places where you can get 3 or more species in area.

Regardless of nostrils, always good to see these!

Keeled Rat Snake

About 1.5m and as fat as your wrist. Non-venomous, eats rats 🐀 along with frogs and other small mammals.

I think this is the 12th snake species I’ve seen so far in Singapore…

Pretty common in open areas across Singapore.

And, it’s called a Dollarbird because it has markings on the underwing that look like silver dollars (which I failed to photo🤦‍♂️)

A common birds across Asia, found in grasslands, gardens, fields etc and they eat seeds, hence the chunky beak.

Just down the road from our house, it perched nicely for a few pics. Lucky me!
