All My Best Skeets Has Typos. Just keeping the same thing as other places, probably should be updated: Dad wearing a lot of odd-job hats. Writer. Photographer. No longer a teacher. he/him

Ok - will bring up one specific I love and, this is something of a spoiler. Ok? Spoiler here.

In the last act this movie had a choice: embrace the ethics of Seargent Farrell, or embrace the ethics of Major West. Most movie makers would have chosen the Major. Danny Boyle chose the Seargent.

Showed the kid 28 Days Later today and it was even better than the last time I watched it. 5 star movie. I love it so much. I could probably do 10,000 word on all the ways it is great and interesting. Might be a top 3 all time horror movie for me? Hell, it might be the best. Its in the conversation.

And I wouldn't trade that experience I still remember 26 years later for any A+ I could have gotten away with cheating with AI had that been an option.

I wrote an essay due in the morning overnight once in uni. Ate instant coffee and left the windows open in -30C to stay awake. Prof told me: "I really didn't know how to mark this. It's an A+ paper until it falls off a cliff into a complete mess, so I split the difference and gave you a B-."

When I see the anti-ICE protestors go viral in costumes that hide their identity I think “good! Stay hidden!”Way too many Ferguson protest icons ended up shot dead later.

Also…13 years! Damn. It’s been 13 years! I can’t even believe it’s been so long. Time is utter fiction. It makes no sense to me. Lol
jxilon.bsky.social
Thirteen!!!! That is so stupendously awesome. Been a fan since day one and I swear, the time is coming near I’ll be able to get back to a lot more short fiction reading and recommending and I’m sure Nightmare will feature regularly in both. Congrats to you all.

So what was happening at exactly one hour, twelve mins and ninetee-and-a-half seconds in Alien? Will have to find out later when I'm home.
jxilon.bsky.social
Alien. Ok, so if we divide the run time in seconds (6960 for Alien) by 3652 (using 10 year cycles) and then multiple the result by the day you are in of your current decade of life (so, 2277 for me) you can find out the moment of the film that gives your horoscope for the day. Me: 112 mins 19.5 secs

i think we should just do horoscopes based on what the number one movie at the box office was the day we were born, it seems more scientifically rigorous

Also, I saw someone say in a review that Daniel Day-Lewis is fantastic, "but that's not what you're paying for" and I kind of want to fight that person now? I detest reviewers who choose to speak in such ways for the audience. I mean, that is *exactly* what I was paying to see the movie for?

I very much appear to be at odds with the larger feelings about Anemone. I think, in the end, it is suffering a lot from people not differentiating between "this isn't my kind of movie" and "this is a bad movie". It is emphatically not a bad movie. It's just not a commercial movie.

Turns out taking time to just turn off the rest of the world and do something you really enjoy just for yourself is kinda therapeutic.

So when I decided to do this I was wondering if I could still "handle" three movies at the theatre in a row. I haven't done that in like 20 years since I used to do 3-4 a day for three days when I'd go to the Busan International Film Festival. But it instead of being exhausting it was rejuvenating.

Just saw Anenome. About to watch Smashing Machine. Then going go immediately watch Him. Yep, gave myself a little one-day film festival.
jxilon.bsky.social
Both Anenome and Smashing Machine are full of potentially triggering topics and things of various sorts btw.
jxilon.bsky.social
Smashing Machine is excellent for its leads and well made and, frankly, unsettling for someone who was a fan of those earlier eras of UFC and Pride.
jxilon.bsky.social
Anenome is actually a very good film with two very good performances by two very good actors.
jxilon.bsky.social
Ok, so the really funny thing about this is, in this order, there are actually some through-lines and themes that tie it altogether, and, honestly, after the very serious first two the the wonderful ridiculousness of HIM was a perfect way to end this triple show day. Any other order woulda been poor

One nice thing about cold is you can always try more layers, better layers, etc. for me at least, when i had moved from Canada to a hotter, more humid environment, i realized the problem with heat was there just is a point where there is nothing more you can do.

Sigh. I know I haven’t been super active lately, but oh boy does it suck to find out yet another online place appears to be choosing to flush itself down the toilet in the name of the people in charge being egomaniacs.

I know a lot of people really really do not want to have to care about the Jay Madness Discourse.

But it is actually a really bad thing that the CEO of the platform we all decamped to because Elon got transphobic mod madness...

...is now doing transphobic mod madness.

This is a Black person who has been on Bluesky forever and apparently just got banned for calling Jay transphobic.

We are at the "hurting the mods' feelings is a bannable offense" stage of Jay's meltdown, now

Protesting in Support of Gaza, the social media headline fails to mention. Go Italians!

Maybe I'm recency biasing all over this, but I can't remember another year of the 21st century that comes close to this level.
jxilon.bsky.social
And I still want to see: The Shrouds (I'm counting it as 2025), Black Bag, Weapons, Caught Stealing, Superman, Thunderbolts, Predator: Killer of Killers, KPop Demon Hunters, The Long Walk.
jxilon.bsky.social
I've previously seen Sinners, Mickey 17, and 28 Days later which are all instant all-time favs for me and by themselves would make this a historically great year in film. The Woman in The Yard and Eddington were both at the least interesting.
jxilon.bsky.social
Heck, just realized there are 4 films I want to see in theater right now and I may have to squeeze them all in this week: HIM, One Battle After Another, Anemone, The Smashing Machine. I'm kinda interested in Black Phone 2 just because of Ethan Hawke too.
