Saddened and scared for trans people and queer people, especially LGBTQ+ youth.

So many people will be hurt. It's so sickening.

Have been more active in local queer networks and activities, but it's been a sad, emotionally fraught day today

Many struggle with writing alt text for charts and other other data visualizations. Amy Cesal's "Writing Alt Text for Data Visualization" hammers home the importance of explaining the chart type, the type of data, and the reason for the chart.

artists deserve to be remunerated fairly for our labor

Yep. We have been out of contract with Elsevier at MIT for 4.5 years now, at substantial savings to the Institute. Happy to share our experience with any library interested in following suit.
Exclusive: ‘Lots more’ university libraries could drop big subscription deals.

After several institutions drop Elsevier deals, senior librarians say rising costs and severe financial strain have reached a “tipping point”.

Incidentally the Pixelfed dude is soon coming out with Loops, a currently-beta service which hosts video instead of images and replicates the feel of TikTok moreso than Instagram. It looks really good and from what I've seen of the UI/UX it's user-friendly in the way Bluesky is and Mastodon isn't
Meta is deleting links to Pixelfed, a decentralized, open source Instagram competitor that has had skyrocketing signups in recent days: www.404media.co/meta-is-bloc...

Pixelfed said it is "seeing unprecedented levels of traffic."
