Nice!! Congrats on getting cast. Any details to share? Or still very early?

Felt on the delaying tactic (see also: time to get back to living on a linux distro...)

Oh! One thing to note - if you want to program it with CHIRP and you have the CHIRP cable that works with the Baofeng HTs, that one does not work with the UV-25x4. It's a specific cable (PC04). If you do end up getting one of these radios, happy to save you $25 bucks and let you borrow my cable.

That one quip is really my only grievance with it - and for just over 100 bucks, hard to beat. KD9BRW also uses it and recommended it to me last time we were at PS:1. Honestly considering getting another one to keep one at the desk and one in the car.

One major downside is that the audio out is a little finicky. There's an onboard speaker that is actually really good! But there is also a line out to run audio into like, an external speaker, and it seems the TRRS pin out in the manual doesn't match what it actually is...looking through workarounds

I like it a lot, especially for the price. It's the UV-25x4. I used it during the WCARS net last week and got lots of feedback that the audio quality was great. Huge pro: the form factor. It is SO small, easy to pick up and move from base station to mobile. Very easy to throw in the car or pack.

Same question over here. My wife and I were just talking about this earlier today. Brave is an alternative…but has its own quirks. I’ve seen references to Librewulf, but haven’t looked into it myself yet. The landscape ain’t great.

Enshittification comes for all apps, it seems.

Happily (tragically!) it looks to be sold out. Love to see Ben getting continued sales and acclaim though. Will definitely be looking to get a copy (and might even ask very kindly for a signed one).

Oh no! Man that sucks. I have also noticed a few "delicate" things about this radio. I swapped out the casing for it and had the thought to give it a nicer rotary dial. Navigating the menus was always sticky but I think I pressed down a little too hard - and now they are even harder to move through.

Similar situation. My most capable radio right now is my trusdx, which can't do 10m. Looking at either a G90 or a X6100, but probably not for a few more months. Trying to make do with what I got - I've seen some suggest using Morse Runner to practice simulated QSOs to stay sharp in the meantime.
