Books, Food, Life at the library, sometimes a bit weird.

Miss Marple and other Agatha Christie was my formative reading next to Stephen King. I want this.

I’m guessing I know who and I need to read it soon.

feels more diaristic to them. They are familiar with journaling. Sadly, many of them don’t yet have the skills to pull this pov off yet. A few do. The students who write from other POVs often do better. I suspect they’ve put more intention into the “why” of the perspective.

Exactly. If it’s written well, I happily go along with it. I will notice all sorts of issues if it isn’t. Having said this, I’ll mention that I sometimes judge student writing contests. Many middle school and high school students are using first person. I suspect they think it is easier because it

Making me all sad missing Prince and Tom Petty!

And now you are eligible for a Hugo!

When I went for my first one, I casually mentioned that I’d had chicken pox twice. I was told I really needed the vax because that meant I could get an even nastier case of shingles. If you’re like me, get it.

It’s a nice sentiment, but most people working at mid-size and small libraries can’t afford to be members. Additionally, the fact that the primary conference is in the middle of summer read is a major turn off to a lot of public librarians. 😕

A propos of nothing: My father is the king of malapropisms and the first time I heard him say the name of the movie he called it “Avocado.” I still think of the films this way.

I’m scared. I’ve worked in the enclosed teen room at the library and experienced the rank funk of multiple teen boys after school in an enclosed room. I don’t want to think about hockey stank. And I grew up on a horse farm!

Also, we pay for groceries more frequently, so it’s a more repetitive pain.

I will give past instructors the benefit of the doubt. When I taught college-level writing, I occasionally had students I needed to be extremely direct with. Of those, one or two just would not process what they did not want to hear. They deeply believed they were special, excellent, and correct.

More like seven inches or so here, but same. I’ve been entertaining myself by looking at pics from the snowplow cams on the dept of transportations app.

The bowl of veggies look particularly sad. A few of those items could have hidden flavor because of what they are (cream/butter/white pepper in the potatoes wouldn’t show up) but the beans and carrots look anemic. I don’t think there’s hidden flavor, but benefit of the doubt if not for the rest.

Exactly. Sometimes I just cock an eyebrow at them and say, really?

Yep! My ex-BIL worked in marketing and he told me about that food. Big NOPE!

I’ve met them in person. Not fun.

My (OLDER) sister once mocked my gray hairs. I shrugged, said I don’t care, and pointed out that if she didn’t dye hers regularly hers would show up too. She then whined that hers made her hair look mousey while mine looked silvery. Our parents’ were present & just shook their heads. 😂
