France could raise around €20 billion per year from this tax

That’s half of the €40B the government is looking for this year

Globally? $302–377 billion could be raised—every year

From the ultra-rich. Who currently pay very little.

And what’s happening

intense bombing (1000+ a day) including schools/shelters/safety routes/crossings/bakeries + full blockade risking deaths by dehydration + mass displacement of a 40% child civilian population that is already under occupation

Can certainly be interpreted as destroying in part

Intent to destroy in part is different than “aim of eliminating the existence of people who call themselves “Palestinian”, as you put it.

Israel has been explicit about what it’s carrying out in Gaza. Why isn’t the world listening?

Combination of

dehumanizing rhetoric + blockade reducing survival chances + impossible ask of >1 million relocating + >1000 strikes a day (including white phosphorus)

Applied on a vulnerable majority civilian group, with limited mobility, already under occupation - looks like ethnic cleansing
October 15, 2023 at 9:17 AM
Shouldn’t have used the structure “you did the same thing” in the previous tweet, did not intend anything malicious there, and sounds bizarre when I read it now. Meant to say, if a similar thing happened at a smaller scale
October 15, 2023 at 12:30 AM
that appears to me as more meeting the definition inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part
October 15, 2023 at 12:27 AM
If you did the same things to a group of 10 or 100 or 1000 people, who were in a less vulnerable context, it could be those types of killings. When the scale is over a million people, almost half women and children, living in occupied lands, alongside this rhetoric and scale of bombardment
October 15, 2023 at 12:26 AM
I agree it’s bad either way, and that defining it, is not the *most* important thing. But it certainly is important, given the way we understand and react to matters of this kind
October 15, 2023 at 12:17 AM
Okay, if that’s the bar, that sounds like it’s higher to meet than the UN definition, that doesn’t seem to talk about the “aim of eliminating existence” in these absolute terms
October 15, 2023 at 12:16 AM
If this genocide, all war is genocide is a pretty weak answer, given that it’s a specific group of people with limited mobility, high ratio of civilians that are already living under an occupation
October 15, 2023 at 12:13 AM
Genuinely asking, what would be needed to cross the threshold?
October 15, 2023 at 12:07 AM
How does

dehumanizing rhetoric + blockade reducing survival chances + impossible ask of > 1 million relocating + >1000 strikes a day (w/ white phosphorus)

Not amount to

Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
