Adopted Cardiffian - retired and happy - family, travel, socialist, history, law, petsitting, aviation, music. I'm too old to put up with nonsense and block fools and knaves.
If only this could be readily encapsulated in a redtop newspaper headline - not that the editors would allow it!

In that case, she should have just said: "Nein, mein Führer".

A 90 year old has-been with no skin in the game - we need to hear from big football names who might actually risk their prospects by calling out fascism.

Some people like pictures of pets, some find it nauseating - but happy dogs do it for me, and my dog was one of the happiest. Sending you best wishes.

He's seen Trump's brazen pilfering of public funds and wealth accumulation through bribes and insider dealing. So why not here?

I didn't say I disagreed with your thesis - but no-one has relinquished strategically and economically valuable territory unless they were forced to. But love your optimism that the right thing will prevail.

Not a snowflake in hell's chance of that.

Isn't Alaska a threat to Russian security?? Looks fair game to me for Putin to adopt the Trumpian approach and reclaim it.
January 19, 2026 at 4:44 PM
From the UK's perspective, Trump is burning bridges as fast as he can. He thinks he can bully the world to do his bidding, but he's gone a step too far over Greenland. It will give the green light to China to invade Taiwan, and it will end NATO. Russia will be laughing.

My sister, age 5 or 6, drew a Christmas card which featured a load of bears in a forest. When we queried the relevance of bears to Christmas, she indignantly replied, "They're holly bears - from the carol "When the holly bears a-berry". Always think of that whenever I hear the song.

You've omitted Turkey's 445,000. Whilst Erdoğan cosies up to Putin, he couldn't rely on that in the event of a war. But realistically Russia's huge army size couldn't all be deployed to Europe. Logistically, thousands are in the Far East, Strategically, all Russia's disputed borders would be at risk

Russia has poorly equipped, poorly trained and demoralised troops, 160,000 of whom are conscripts. I don't think we're too worried.

In the course of just over a year, the US has gone from dependable friend, to unreliable ally, to rogue state with hostile intent.
January 11, 2026 at 9:30 AM
Russia has shown it is weak - evident in its failure in Ukraine. Sure, France and the UK are small countries, no longer rulers of empires. But Europe together is a formidable force. The US thinks it doesn't need allies - and will soon lose global dominance to China, if it hasn't already done so.

We all succumb.
January 11, 2026 at 12:41 AM
The protests in Iran are matters which the UK and France can have little or no influence over. History tells us that meddling is likely to backfire. It's got nothing to do with the largely benign influence of Muslims in the UK

We're more worried about the megalomania in the White House.

Each to their own. To me, it seemed like they padded it with cloying dialogue that didn't need saying. I felt for Lesley Sharp. Really contrasted with the crisp and spare writing in Line of Duty.

But awful script - clichéd, trite and a waste of good actors.

Every Essex county councillor should be required to have their own children or grandchildren cycle along that "path" in the rain at night, and report back on how safe they felt. #deathstrip

Appalling, craven appeasement of Trump. Normalise this kind of illegal act, and it will only embolden him and make resistance that much harder.
January 6, 2026 at 6:59 PM
He's not going to reform very much by sitting at home watching EastEnders. But what did we really expect?
January 5, 2026 at 10:23 PM
RFK Jr should face jail time.
January 2, 2026 at 11:45 PM
Yes, I realise that - I wasn't being entirely serious, although it didn't stop him trying to "pardon" someone in Arizona who was convicted on state charges.
January 1, 2026 at 11:41 AM
Are there no professional standards bodies in the US which hold doctors to account? Or would Trump just pardon them?

Those woke university lefties indoctrinating our young don't seem to be doing a very good job!
