I’m 52 today. Woke up and legit forgot it was my birthday until I received a few texts. Laundry, some reading, puttering about a bit with a sculpture, a doc about Jamie Wyeth, and ribs for dinner.

Ligotti is viewing Tarkovski’s Mirror and pondering the effect of dreams on our waking lives and memories. Giallo’s thinking a few explosions and bloodshed would liven up this yawn-fest.

I’m very pleased with how quickly the clay has dried. It also seems quite sturdy and up to sanding.

Cardboard clay.

I feel most like an artist when I’m getting my hands dirty and making a mess. I covered my armature with a layer of the clay and currently have it hanging from living room ceiling, because of the boys.

I’m hoping by using it, I can keep the recipe simple, and avoid using materials like dry wall compound.
I definitely overtaxed my blender- there was smoke. So next time I’ll use a greater ratio of water to cardboard. I might let the cardboard pieces soak for a week to help them break down.

More Pasaquan.

Alice and I visited Pasaquan today. Alice described it as a Crayola fever dream. I’m sure I’m not the first to use this analogy, but it fits- the farmhouse crashes, and Dorothy opens the door, and her world shifts from the muted sepia tones of Kansas to the vivid technicolor of OZ.

More Pasaquan. I took so many pics, but they really don’t do it justice.

I’m not sure why I waited years and years to watch The Color of Pomegranates. Every frame is an inspiration.

This is my first sculpture of ‘25. Early stages still. Not a giant sperm. I’ll be experimenting with making my own clay from cardboard. I’m excited about the possibilities.

Hi ho, Giallo has a new favorite mug that he knows he shouldn’t drink from.
