Thank you very much for that additional insight! I do hope that I didn't imply I think humans are worse or less caring - I more wanted to challenge the idea of "good humans, evil neanderthals" as posed in that video.

My understanding is that cannibalism does not mean murder, necessarily, as well.

...you followed me first? Again, I think you might want to step back a moment if this conversation is upsetting you.

That book is by a professional archeologist, so I'd give her higher credibility. I have no idea why you'd assume I only knew this from one book, this was part of my major. You seem very upset over this, though, and I don't think a real conversation is likely to happen, so I'll go ahead and step back

There's a special place in my heart for ultra despair girls. It was such a concept.

I had both the vita and the psTV that I got for $20 new at the end of its lifecycle. Lost them both when I had to move but it had such banger VN titles. Hell, I even had the PSP just for birth by sleep.

My apologies and thank you for coming to my TED talk, but I did want to point this out as a questionable/unreliable source.

3. Many things taken as fact that are currently not scientifically accepted. Denisovans are a good example. While we do have DNA evidence, we've never found anything even close to a full denisovan skeleton. We barely have a handful of smaller bones. We don't know enough to classify them fully yet.

2. The idea of neanderthals as violent/aggressive. The fossil evidence we have strongly contradicts this. There's actually significantly LESS evidence of murders between neanderthals than between h. sapiens. Close to none, in fact. H. Sapiens has a much more extensive record of killing each other.

Most of this video is misinformation, unfortunately. I only skimmed it briefly because it made my head hurt, but a few standouts:
1. claims of slit pupils/nocturnal activity: no idea where they got this. at all. i have never head anything remotely like this claim, neanderthals were likely diurnal.

For those interested in actual archaeology: the book Kindred: neanderthal life, love, death, and art is incredible.

It's also incorrect to consider neanderthals as a different species. Since we can interbreed, many prefer to classify neanderthals as H. Sapiens Neanderthalensis.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a personal favorite, but it's not for everyone. I'd suggest checking first that you're alright with both the graphic content and his writing style.

and it doesn't quite fit, but the three body problem (and its sequels) might have the vibe you want.

It depends exactly what you mean by "post", but a few books that might fit the bill:
Severance by Ling Ma (most of the book takes place after, some of it is during)

Bird Box/Malorie by Josh Malerman. Don't let the movie put you off it, I think it works better as a book.
