It’s a mistake for lawyers to harp on shortcomings of 1st-generation #LegalTech (hallucinations, etc) as evidence of the supremacy of the law firm. A pragmatic appetite for risk, combined with cost pressures, will cause many of their clients to embrace these tools well before the tech is fully baked

Some good insights into the foundational work needed to maximally leverage AI-powered legal tech. Playbooks/templates, knowing your workflows, etc., are all critical to automating manual processes to save time, money, and — perhaps most compelling for practitioners— achieve *better outcomes*.

#LegalTech valuations are skyrocketing, in a sign that AI-fueled innovation has staying power in a sector historically resistant to disruption. Legal AI assistants are at the forefront. Following Harvey.ai, Legora is fast approaching the coveted unicorn status.

Agree w/ @colinlevy.bsky.social
that successful #LegalTech deployment requires introspective look at your specific needs. My practice as a senior SME in-house has little in common with a mid-level associate at a law firm … so we don’t need the same tech solutions

“Email notifications, client calls, and meeting schedules constantly interrupt focused work, making it difficult to invest in building new habits for new systems … lawyers naturally revert to familiar processes.” I agree #LegalTech deployment will be slow unless organizations carve out time for it.

#LegalTech kept coming up during the recent 4-day ABA #antitrust spring meeting in DC, including in the Q&A portion of a compliance panel I spoke on. Software that monitors/audits communications seemed of particular interest to the audience.

#LegalTech is “having a moment”. Top line trends include stronger user interest, more VC funding, and a highly fragmented field of interoperable products. Also notable that “it’s caught the eye of enterprise tech companies” (noting Docusign & Workday made recent acquisitions in the vertical).

Curious in alternatives to the standard RFP process being used to deploy enterprise software at large corporates. Emergence of SaaS products that automate the RFP process for buying SaaS products feels like pretty good indicator of a market failure … but what does agile B2B procurement look like?

Legal conferences don’t normally have #LegalTech on their agendas, but a panel I spoke on at this year’s ABA #antitrust Spring Meeting had a lively discussion on how technology can automate compliance process and workflows. More on this episode of #VersionUp.

Lawyer’s perspective on attending the #LegalTech conference #LegalWeek2025: you have to separate the #LegalAi noise from signal, but there’s a ton of great tech if you focus on narrow use cases for specialized applications. More on this episode of #VersionUp pod.
