Were they getting a bargain? Maybe. The minimum wage was $2.65/hour, but these were small stores so it didn't take long, and I suspect the quality of my work was lacking. A candy bar cost 15¢ and some respectable toys were under $1. I felt like a rich kid (actually we were poor).
