On the other hand, not every open-source experience is positive. I once implemented a graceful shutdown fix for the gRPC python bindings but eventually gave up trying to upstream it. Unfortunately, I felt unwelcome, and the maintainers showed little interest in the contribution. 😖

It’s such a rewarding and encouraging experience — seeing your code get merged and soon used by others is just a great feeling! Just don't be afraid and give it a try. 🙂
