Visiting a glacial front near Adventdalen, Svalbard was incredible! The North Polar Sea was rough – nearly swept me off deck at one point! 🌊 What an experience! #polareasearch #geoscience #arcticresearch #arctic #sailing #glacier #nature

In my opinion, one of the easiest deep sky objects to capture is also one of the most beautiful: M42, the Orion Nebula. Last year from my terrace. #space #science #M42 #OEWF #curiosity

PANGAEA is rescuing numerous datasets scheduled for decommissioning in May. PANGAEA has opened its archive to help safeguard these valuable resources. If you become aware of other endangered datasets, please contact them. Importantly, let others know where to find the data.

One year ago,we got caught in a whiteout while taking sea ice cores near Mohnbukta,Svalbard. One crew member went missing, but thanks to the amazing UNIS team, all made it back safely. It's humbling to think pioneers like Wegener worked in such conditions without modern gear or tech #ArcticResearch

Dumbbell Nebula from my terrace last year.
It still astonishes me every time that you can explore these objects with comparatively little effort, even from a brightly lit city. This was a roughly four-hour exposure with a SkyWatcher 200/1000 Newtonian and a Canon 5D MkIII.
