Back from the holidays with a splash, the latest episode of Fieldnotes is out. We think you'll find this episode all about seabirds is well worth the wait. Ariel-Micaiah Heswall shed light on why our city lights make rough nights for seabirds.

Olfactory and visual acuity differences between seabirds may make some families more susceptible to plastic ingestion than others, hypothesises @kamyabio.bsky.social. Shags were most likely to have ingested microplastics. #AOC2023

Last weekend, I saw a kiwi in the wild for the first time!! Crazy considering
1) I am a kiwi
2) I am an #ecologist
3) I STUDY BIRDS
I am truly grateful for how far kiwi conservation has come, but I'm wondering how many kiwis (people) go their whole lives without ever seeing a kiwi (bird).

Absolutely terrifying considering the extent of mice invasion 🫣
First evidence of mouse predation killing adult great albatrosses.
- Incredibly sad news for a critically endangered bird
- Invasive species are a top conservation concern, esp. on islands

Still, I can't help but be impressed by the chutzpah of the mice.
