They’re so good and it’s sad that so many people hate them without giving them a chance.

Lots of people used wrong names for things. I remember being endlessly frustrated that people would call the computer tower itself the “hard disk,” seemingly not understanding that the hard drive was inside the tower.

Probably a lot of people remembering things “wrong” were also wrong back then.

The 16 is the only bus line within like half a mile of me. It’s already practically useless but this really seals the deal.

As a nearby resident, my disappointment is immeasurable. 20 years for some uninspired housing was at least housing. But this?

Just make it a park at this point.

If the mayor would like to appoint a complete and total shill to an important city position, I am ready to serve. Gimme six floor single stair and on-street dining spread liberally across the central city and I’m a happy boy.
November 24, 2025 at 8:55 PM
Is the Mayor opposed to this? I hadn’t heard that. Disappointing.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. Have a nice day!

We could just build more housing and rent would go down even more.

Furthermore the bad part of what they did (requiring users to price at the suggested rate) is different from what we’re trying to ban (suggesting a rate). It takes only moderate intelligence to understand the difference between these things.
November 20, 2025 at 5:03 PM
I don’t know why you’re claiming I’m pro-price fixing, but I’m not. My stance is that price fixing it bad, it is possible (though not guaranteed) that RealPage was doing it, but *even if they are* their pricing power in Portland is too low for it to make more than about a 5% difference in rents.
November 20, 2025 at 5:01 PM
I’m not sure what you’re talking about?

I understand what state capacity means and meant what I said.

The important point here is your words: “a tiny marginal portion of that profit.”

This law will have very limited impact because it has a tiny marginal effect.

We can argue whether or not it’s worth the costs of the inevitable lawsuit, but AS YOU SAID, it will have a tiny marginal impact on rent.

Their point is that all capitalism is extractive and allowing corporations to flourish in Portland is an inherently extractive enterprise.

It’s nonsense but it’s what they believe.
