The U-S-A, U-S-A! coverage has always been tiresome, but will be harder to take this time. Would love to spend 2 weeks watching Canadian coverage instead.

Gaining some momentum on that - there's always going to be that 25%-35%, though. With most of the news media in the tank for the billionaires, it makes it harder to break though.

They were 3rd-to-last because they're hosting in 2034. Greece is always first, host country is always last an (except for France/US, future hosts), the rest are in alphabetical order in the language of the host country. Booing Vance is great, probably ok to boo the anthem also, not the athletes.

The past year's events have highlighted the contrast between MAGA policies and basic human decency. They've also exposed the behavior of corporate Dems as fake opposition. I believe this has driven many former moderates (even some former Republicans) towards more principled progressive candidates.

Feet in the streets in Minneapolis has contributed greatly to turning public sentiment (translating into possible votes). Hiding in our homes accomplishes nothing. General strikes are also needed, but it's all part of resistance.

It's so typical that an indirect connection would have impact on his campaign when Epstein's best friends all seem to be immune from any consequences. <sigh>

I think that's Pritzker's biggest liability. Even though he is in favor of increasing taxes on the rich (unlike Newsom, apparently) and is very clear about naming and fighting fascism. I guess being a bit overweight is seen as an issue for everyone except Trump, too.

Making that much money can't be done without stepping on people and ignoring ethical and moral issues. And hoarding obscene amounts of money is a mental disorder, like any other obsessive disease.

She could have been a leader of the resistance from the beginning, if she had any strategic/leadership abilities, but went into hiding instead. Everyone is done with her.

Once upon a time I used to believe in moderates, but once it was pointed out that they're behaving exactly like a fake, controlled opposition would behave, I haven't been able to take any of them seriously.

Meh, I don't think you've had direct experience with every single Democrat ever, but there's no point in discussing when the current regime is literally trying to destroy the world.

Most of them are, but not all. And this year we may be able to rout out a few more in primaries. The only mass stereotyping I will do is to say that every single existing Republican is a cruel insane POS. I will explicitly vote against them until there's evidence to convince me otherwise.

I see the point, but I don't think he's going to be able to appear in public much longer, if he stays alive, so I still think 2024 was the time to shut him down. The trouble now is that Miller and Thiel, etc. are actively gaining power and won't stop until they're forced to.

You're saying that no action I could have possibly taken wasn't a vote for Trump, "effectively"? Kamala wasn't good enough and I do blame the DNC, corporate non-opposition party, but I'll never forgive the voters, either.

I mostly agree - but I optimistically believe, with the obvious leftward shifting of the base, there will be a huge tide of new candidates that the DNC won't be able to keep down. Hope I'm right....

But we also need to immediately get out of our descent into fascism in the short-term, too. I believe the choices will start improving due to what we've seen happen.
