Great insight. This paragraph struck me as maybe not a New Yorker but someone who loves food & being in a city full of great food in diverse neighborhoods. There are a lot of non-partisans/regular people this resonates for.

Just informed at my work that our grant funding Citizenship classes & preparation for the test for qualified immigrants & refugees has been terminated bc "[t]he work performed under this award no longer effectuates the program goals [or] priorities" of the USCIS.

Wonderful! I teach "Dreams" to lower level ELLs. It's perfect for newcomers and anyone who's fled terrible things... I begin with a cloze where we build missing words (dreams, bird, fly; go & snow) & build to pairs that memorize one stanza each & present.

This was WILD to read in 1981 in an AP English class, but I don't know what was more wild: the book or the fact that it was assigned by Ms. Rotter, a decidedly dotty teacher who was, at a minimum, in her late 70s at the time. We all just thought she must not have read it ...
