One of the problems is units trying to save themselves and not the university or universities as a whole (though I haven’t read anything about that unit and am not saying that’s what they’re doing because I truly don’t know).

I emerged more worried than hopeful in part because this is a conversation that never would’ve taken place in Georgia, and UW faculty are worried but they have no idea how bad it is elsewhere.

Another speaker, who has lived in an authoritarian regime in Eastrrn Europe, said, “Faculty must be resilient, it may last a couple years or a couple of generations.”

Student and faculty resistance is a key part of how authoritarian regimes are overcome historically. Keep fighting!!
