Can attest to this. Sadly, I’d kind of been in this camp in my younger days (not my parents’ fault, they were never conservative- I was just a real life Alex Keaton). It - again, sadly, but better late than never - took grad school to finally learn how to put myself in other people’s shoes.

50 year old white retired navy officer, and I’ve been volunteering with our local Indivisible organization since April. It’s always heartening to see other folks “breaking the mold,” as it were.

Think I saw one of those for every division last night.

Yeah, the whole “don’t show up to a protest armed” as if these weren’t the same folks lionizing Rittenhouse.

And stuff like “if she was such a good mother she wouldn’t risk orphaning her kid by being there” regarding Renee Good.

This - and the replies - has been great to see. I haven’t even made it all the way through and already shared the link in a chat with some friends who aren’t all on Bluesky who could stand to see this dose of hope.

Yeah, what little I still see from some extended family and former colleagues in an earlier profession/questionable life choice suggests plenty are downright enthusiastic about all this, and others may be tentatively clutching their pearls but still victim-blaming while they do so.

I suspect most of the ones I knew are currently downright giddy.

As someone who tries pretty hard to be in the first direction these days, I think there’s a lot to be said for that.

Either that, or they were the bullies, but everyone moved on and just left them behind and they miss the rush.

It’s not hard to imagine what happens.

I’m beginning to wonder if that isn’t part of the regime’s plan. It may well be buried somewhere in P2025. Stephen Miller probably dreams about it. Because that’s the justification for even more draconian measures I’m sure they can’t wait to unveil.
