To be clear, this is very high praise for Kant scholarship

Just got page proofs and had to read a bit of my prose.

Just ask ChatGPT, it'll be happy to make up some relevant references!

I would also say that the hostility I got in referee reports in grad school remains unmatched by anything I've experienced since then.

Yes, especially the anonymous or semi-anonymous parts of the culture!

Somewhat against one part of this thread, it seems to me that one usually (not always!) knows what the problems in one's papers are. So often all the referee needs to do is say in a sentence what each problem is and push one to deal with it. But of course no need to do that with any hostility!

One hypothesis: (1) Increasing precarity has meant increased hostility and aggression below the surface in the profession, (2) shifting disciplinary norms have made non-anonymous expressions of hostility and aggression more unacceptable, thus (3) an increase in anonymous expressions of the same?

Woke up to a paper rejection with a pretty negative referee report, and you know what, the referee really nailed it this time

Plato attacks poetry because it disorders the soul through lying, impersonation, and deception. Seen from that perspective, the problem with LLMs is not that they *can't* produce poetry – it's that they produce *nothing but*?

It also got my questions wrong, but it seemed more inclined to give a false negative than a hallucination?

I think it should have 11 or more 🙌

It got even more creative when we moved on to the Opus Postumum, but, like, fair enough, anything sort of goes there.

But what could be more Kantian than claiming that Kant said something he never really did?
karlschafer.bsky.social
I was asking about passages where Kant uses "Abgrund". It correctly identified A613/B641 as one, but then made up a BS passage which sort of summarized the Dialectic using that language – instead of what's actually there, which is much more narrowly on the Ideal.

sadly, we can never be completely sure of the answer to that question

it's "institutional email about AI" day in Texas!

Why is ChatGPT so addicted to gaslighting me about Kant?

Even in the face of being called out repeatedly, it returns to the same hallucinated passage and offers it to me as real.

Does it think it's funny to lie to Kantians?

Is there some magic in that fake passage that attracts its attention?

When you ask whether Hegel's philosophy is truly "presuppositionless", remember that "presupposition" itself only acquire a determinate meaning for Hegel through the self-development of the logic. So, Hegel's logic gets to define for itself what it would mean for it to be presuppositionless.

Without jorts? Good luck brother.

Honored to have my paper, "The PSR as a Practical Principle in Kantian Ethics" appear in this special issue of the BPA for Kant's 300th birthday with some *very* distinguished scholars.

Lol what is Gopnik talking about? The Vitruvian Man is an image of precisely the opposite of individualism?
