Private equity firms have acquired over two-thirds of the US opioid treatment market without improving treatment access, a new study finds. "I think it raises concerns about what purpose, and whose interests, these investments are actually serving,” Professor Professor Yashaswini Singh, PhD says.
Private equity ownership of opioid treatment programs has not improved access or decreased deaths, Brown University study finds - The Boston Globe
“Our findings suggest that we ought to pay more attention to what role investors serve in opioid treatment programs if they're not expanding access and not delivering any tangible public health gains,” lead author Yashaswini Singh said.

Phelan et al found that 40% of people treated for SUD used social media for recovery support, mainly to build support and follow recovery content. Use was higher among women and younger adults. Most found groups independently and engaged regularly. More research on efficacy is needed.

Birth rates are falling. But a $5K check doesn't address the top barriers to having children:

✅maternity care deserts
✅no paid leave
✅high maternal mortality rate
✅childcare deserts
✅high cost of infertility treatment

1. Address maternal mortality rates and make it safer to have babies
2. Improve maternity leave policies nationwide
3. Increase access to fertility treatments through lowered costs and better coverage
4. Increase federal funding for research in reproductive health
