That's just an x11 thing.

X11 handles multiple monitors by treating them as one really big monitor so having different resolutions, orientations and refresh rates causes problems.

I don't think it'll ever take over, but if Microsoft keeps making bad choices I can see it eventually being like 10-15% after several years, maybe in decades time it could be like a 40win-40linux-20mac split assuming Microsoft keeps dropping the ball
