you know when you're in an art museum that's arranged more kr less in chronological order and you can tell when you've hit 1938 because all of a sudden phthalo green is everywhere? i feel like i'm having a one person version of this experience with nickel titanate yellow

really fighting with this one today... you can see the white spots where i painted some signs out so i can correct them later. trying to remember that when a painting is this difficult, it usually means the next one is going to be really good! right? right?!!!

Merchant is a visual artist from Bombay, India, where she was born in 1986. She received a BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design, New York. At the crossroads of the East and the West, Merchant’s work reflects her journey as a global citizen. Her art explores both comparative mythology as well as science and speculative fiction, featuring creatures and symbolism that are part of her personal visual vocabulary.

here's a little egg tempera painting I made, inspired by Evrard d'Espinque’s Illuminations of De Proprietatibus Rerum
Scan of an ink and egg tempera paint illustration. The focal point of the image is a circle that looks like a very small planet, segmented by 2 sets of branching rivers, one radiating from the top and another from the bottom. There are two tiny castles painted at the sources of the rivers. At the top of the planet, it is day, with a sun and yellow sky above green land. The color of the land turns blue and then purple as you move down to the bottom of the planet, where it is night, with a moon, stars, and dark purple sky. The planet is surrounded by a ring of light blue with wavy white lines - air or perhaps more water? There is a rectangular green frame around all of it that separates the two skies.

what I've been working on recently... first experiment with metallic paint

Abstract painting in red, copper, dark blue, turquoise, purple, and pink oil paints. Blocks of color are defined by thin white lines. There's a sideways eye-like shape in the center, surrounded by some concentric circles, spiraling lines, and a sun-like metallic copper halo radiating out of the final circle.

1. Gateway To The Land Of Leaping Dogs.
I took this photo on the Teign Estuary in Devon in spring 2022. I thought I was just taking a photo of an attractive hole in an old tree. It was only when I got home and looked through my camera roll that I saw the leaping dog, who I'd caught perfectly framed, mid-leap, totally by chance. I remembered the dog immediately, because of what an annoying twat it had been.
