As much as I love Kurosawa, from what I see, it’s set about 400 to 500 years ago. Heian Japan is closer to 900 years ago. The World of the Shining Prince is/was very different. No geisha. No sushi (as we know it). No Kabuki. No Noh. No ritual seppuku.

Free genealogy software usually works for under 250 characters, but I exceeded that. Still, the structure the chart provided was helpful and simpler than timeline software.

My characters are a heavy dose of historic Japanese people sprinkled with legends like Tomoe Gozen and Yamabuki. I found the free, online, genealogy software (WE WANT YOUR DNA! BUY OUR KIT!) is a way to intermix historic characters.

I love my word processing software. Strangely, as a supplement to it, I am using paper, pencil, and eraser to write because my high speed writing brain slows to 7/8th speed and what’s written is less precious. Not cast in concrete and I erase more easily.
