Hugely chuffed, grateful (and relieved) to share the news that my novel, The Low Road, will be published as a paperback and e-book by @eyebooks.bsky.social this year, following the collapse of my former publisher, Unbound. I love the new cover too! www.bookbrunch.co.uk/page/article...

Very happy to have written this and another feature for The Ferret, looking at the impact of flooding - and how communities are at the heart of recovery. In this, I look at one village which was flooded - and decided that they would rally to protect themselves from flooding in the future. #flooding

When Angus Council said Edzell’s 2012 flood caused “minimal” damage, locals disagreed. They formed a flood group, pulled their own figures, and got organised. Here’s what happened next: theferret.scot/new-a...

It’s a huge issue- what struck me most was the lack of financial measures to support affected communities

Very grateful to the editors @billybriggs24.bsky.social and @karingoodwin.bsky.social for their work and support on these - and all the brilliant interviewees who shared difficult stories and important insights.

In the second article for @theferret.scot and The National, I looked at how some places are harnessing community power and resilience to tackle flooding and live with water, focussing on the village of Edzell near Brechin and the work of its flood group: theferret.scot/new-approach...

In Brechin, Storm Babet brought the worst flooding residents could remember. Nearly two years on, many are still struggling to recover.

The UK’s east coast is one of the fastest eroding in Europe. As more storms approach, those losing everything to flooding feel abandoned, writes Katharine Quarmby.

I'll be at #IpswichBookFestival talking about my prize-listed novel, #TheLowRoad @eyebooks.bsky.social, based on a true story from my East Anglian hometown. It tells the story of a Norfolk girl transported to Australia as a convict and is a tale of love, grief, betrayal - and solidarity. #Convicts

There shouldn't be anything controversial in saying that nobody should be gunned down in cold blood for stating their political views - and debating them. Free speech is for everybody - within the legal limits of course. Gloating over the death of another human debases public discourse. #CharlieKirk

Oh the irony.

More on the Unbound/Boundless mess. This was a community of authors and readers who believed in a different way of doing things. My heart goes out to my fellow authors who are left with so much uncertainty and the loss of what we worked so hard to build.

Oh also of course my book and its follow-up (a similar medieval queer romance/thriller) are also looking for a new home. This book’s sales INCREASED every year purely on word of mouth. Imagine what could be done with marketing. Captive Prince x Song of Achilles:

I’m going to pound the table one more time for The Lights of Shantinagar, a book I really think could be massive as South Asian magical realism is gaining popularity with UK/North American audiences. Read the blurb, you want to read the book now, don’t you?
Blurb for Thr Lights of Shantinagar by Nidhi Arora:

Aspiring quantum physicist Sumi is newly married and has moved into her husband’s family home. Here she observes that the beguilingly tranquil middle-class town of Shantinagar is not very different from her beloved quantum world, with happenings in one house being cryptically entangled with things next door, objects mysteriously disappearing then reappearing again, and unexpected interactions revealing surprising truths.

Indeed, right is not always right, wrong is rarely wrong and the truth, like the electron, can be both black and white, the shape it takes depending on how we see it. But when her household finds itself in dire straits, Sumi must blend logic with love to make sense of her new circumstances.

Are you an agent or a publisher looking to add to your list? There are FANTASTIC authors left in the lurch by Unbound who need homes for their existing bools and for sequels / new books. A thread, grouped by genre. Please reskeet!
